Virginia Senate Passes Ultrasound Bill

Changing course after an unwelcome national uproar, the Virginia Senate adopted a revised bill on Tuesday that still requires doctors to perform an ultrasound on women before they have an abortion, but also says that women cannot be forced to have an invasive vaginal ultrasound. ...Gov. Bob McDonnell demanded the revisions last week, and their acceptance on Tuesday all but assured the state’s adoption of the ultrasound requirement. The original bill set off protests from women’s groups and others. Some critics called it “state rape,” and the plan was mocked on television comedy shows.

Teachers Unions Opt for Plastic Sugery on Taxpayers’ Dime

The sweet deal that all the 3,400 teachers in Buffalo are
eligible to get under one of their insurance plan options, they are billed
nothing for any plastic surgery procedure, such as botox, liposuction, tummy
tucks, and there is no deductible …. Last year, Buffalo’s schools spent $5.9
million on plastic surgery which is also known as a cosmetic rider. And Buffalo
teachers have had this rider for nearly four decades …. Now you might think
Buffalo’s school district must be flush with cash to be offering perks like free
plastic surgery, right? Wrong. Louis Petrucci, the president of the Buffalo
Board of Education says he is projecting a $42 million deficit in next year’s
school budget.

Anti-Mormon bias persists, notably among Democrats

Ever since Mitt Romney's unsuccessful run for the 2008 Republican presidential nomination, there's been much discussion of whether GOP voters would accept a Mormon candidate. Would evangelical conservatives, in particular, look past the former Massachusetts governor's faith to vote for him? The underlying assumption was that the more conservative the views, the more intolerant the voter...Now, it turns out a better question might be whether Democratic voters would accept a Mormon candidate. In a survey that cuts against the media stereotype, a new Gallup Poll has found that more Democrats than Republicans say they would not vote for a Mormon for president. Twenty-seven percent of Democrats say they wouldn't vote for a Mormon, while 18 percent of Republicans say the same. For independents, the figure is 19 percent.

And they’re even patting themselves on the back for it....Also last week, cafeteria Nazis in North Carolina swooped in and saved at least two preschoolers from certain death.....Rifling through suspicious lunchboxes containing homemade materials such as sandwiches, the Nazis discovered at least two mothers who were — either intentionally or in their rank ignorance — attempting to poison their children with turkey and cheese, bananas and apple juice....The agents — in accordance with federal USDA guidelines — wrestled these illicit lunches from the preschoolers and replaced them with healthful, federally approved “cafeteria nuggets.”

At the moment Rick Santorum appears to be overtaking Newt Gingrich as the principal challenger to Mitt Romney. Santorum has won more contests than Gingrich (who has won only one), has more delegates, and leads him in the polls. In at least one poll, he also leads Romney. It isn’t yet a Romney–Santorum contest, but it could be headed that way...hope so. Gingrich’s verbal and intellectual talents should make him a resource for any future Republican president. But it would be a grave mistake for the party to make someone with such poor judgment and persistent unpopularity its presidential nominee. It is not clear whether Gingrich remains in the race because he still believes he could become president next year or because he wants to avenge his wounded pride: an ambiguity that suggests the problem with him as a leader. When he led Santorum in the polls, he urged the Pennsylvanian to leave the race. On his own arguments the proper course for him now is to endorse Santorum and exit.

Santorum gets second wind with victories in Minnesota and Missouri

Rick Santorum scored victories in Minnesota and Missouri nominating
contests Tuesday night, winning him no actual delegates, but allowing the former
Pennsylvania senator to stymie Mitt Romney's bid to keep alive a streak of
victories in the Republican presidential primary...NBC News declared Santorum
the projected winner of the Missouri primary and the Minnesota caucus. NBC will
not be allocating any delegates from Missouri to Santorum in its projected count
because the state will host separate caucuses in March to select its
delegates.

A cynic might say that tonight’s Republican contests in Minnesota, Colorado and Missouri deserve an asterisk. In Minnesota and Colorado, which will hold caucuses, voters will pick their preferred presidential candidate in a nonbinding straw poll, while picking delegates to county and regional conventions in a separate vote. In Missouri, no delegates are on the line at all; the state will hold a separate caucus for that purpose on March 17.

Strong scenario: He wins all three states, although Missouri is very close.
Most likely scenario: He wins Colorado by a clear margin and loses Missouri by about 10 points; Minnesota is very close but he loses there once all votes are counted.

Record 1.2 Million People Fall Out Of Labor Force In One Month, Labor Force Participation Rate Tumbles To Fresh 30 Year Low...Submitted by Tyler Durden on 02/03/2012 08:51 -0500...BLS Bureau of Labor Statistics Unemployment Withholding taxes...A month ago, we joked when we said that for Obama to get the unemployment rate to negative by election time, all he has to do is to crush the labor force participation rate to about 55%. Looks like the good folks at the BLS heard us: it appears that the people not in the labor force exploded by an unprecedented record 1.2 million. No, that's not a typo: 1.2 million people dropped out of the labor force in one month! So as the labor force increased from 153.9 million to 154.4 million, the non institutional population increased by 242.3 million meaning, those not in the labor force surged from 86.7 million to 87.9 million. Which means that the civilian labor force tumbled to a fresh 30 year low of 63.7% as the BLS is seriously planning on eliminating nearly half of the available labor pool from the unemployment calculation.

What is a contemporary conservative?
This is a question that each one of us should ask ourselves each morning in this ever changing world that seems to be quickly spiraling out of control.
The contemporary conservative is a person born post baby boom that grew up with various liberal ideas thrust upon them as stated fact in the media, public schools, government policy and the like. The contemporary conservative didn’t necessarily grow up with the conservative mindset, but came to it through study, observation and meditation on what is right in the long run for all people. The Contemporary Conservative was skeptical and rejected short sighted, easy “feel good” policies that only serve to boost the egos of those who propose them and not help those people in need. We contemporary conservatives tend to be pragmatic educated thinkers that see that the “common-sense” approach inherent in the principles of lower-taxes, managed spending, strong defense, securing the borders, strong local government are the most efficient ways to achieve what every American wants, freedom and the pursuit of happiness. We do not think that it is the job of the federal government is to take care of each citizen from cradle to grave…we are self-reliant and expect others to be so as well. With that being said, most contemporary conservatives understand that we should help those less fortunate and are not against programs that accomplish this in an effective way. Through acts of kindness, efficiently run government programs, and donations to those non-profit groups that do so much to help those around us we can assist those less fortunate but only if it gives them a hand up and not a hand out. The “Absolutes” in today’s society and strict ideological rhetoric don’t always work and can hinder progress on solving issues we all face. We, the contemporary conservative, believe the important work is to ensure that the solution implemented is fair, cost efficient and not duplicated else where no matter where it comes from.
We are first and foremost fiscal conservatives and all political ideology stems from this believe. Although we may be of a particular faith this may not be the driving force in our political viewpoints though God is always in our hearts, minds and souls.
The contemporary conservative understands that every program the government enacts is funded by our tax dollars and that the government should be more careful stewards of our money since they are representing their constituents with every vote they cast.
Contemporary conservatives view themselves as conservatives in the everlasting tradition of the Founding Fathers who put forth a set of political ideas, republicanisms, which all groups, even today’s extreme liberals, have made use of and not other more confusing terms as libertarian, right-wing, Republican or paleoconservatism.
I believe that the contemporary conservative is not inherently linked to any one political party, although I can’t fathom ever voting for a democrat politician, but to a philosophy summed up so eloquently by Edmund Burke ...“[I]t is to the property of the citizen, and not to the demands of the creditor of the state, that the first and original faith of civil society is pledged. The claim of the citizen is prior in time, paramount in title, superior in equity. The fortunes of individuals, whether possessed by acquisition or by descent or in virtue of a participation in the goods of some community, were no part of the creditor's security, expressed or implied...[T]he public, whether represented by a monarch or by a senate, can pledge nothing but the public estate; and it can have no public estate except in what it derives from a just and proportioned imposition upon the citizens at large”

Finally, we contemporary conservative have grown up with these false notions: that the 60’s were the only great time for social change in the US (not true, social change should be the USA’s middle name), that all corporations are run by lying, cheating, money hungry crooks (most are honest people trying to make a living), that the free enterprise system only help a few select individuals, the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer (the average income has risen for all Americans), that unions help workers, evolution is a fact (it’s a theory), that global warming is caused by humans and not a, that teachers are under paid, that the press only reports the facts, and that the government can tell us how best to live our lives (when in fact they work for us.) Any other myths you can think of? These myths and many more will be refuted, debated and put to rest on this blog.

We the People...part 1 an Introduction

I find it increasingly alarming that politicians of all creeds and parties (except a few state and local officials) are increasingly belligerent and resentful toward the constituents that they serve. As government continues to grow exponentially, a ruling class is beginning to take seed, despite the best effort of our Constitution to prevent such a thing. The preamble states “We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence,[1] promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America” and introduces our constitution and establish government as a government of the people and for the people putting on solid footing that we (the people) are not to be ruled but are the ones that rule. Good or bad, the representative democracy that has been established in this country has allowed us to correct our faults, inspire those born less fortunate to succeed and blur the line of the caste system so prevalent in other countries ruled by dictators and aristocracy.
The ruling class, as well as, the evaporation of the middle class (the strength of America) is one of the major reasons that Socialism does not work when taken into the real world. In true socialism (or communism) all citizens are to be treated equal which in turn stifles the middle class to strive for a better life and keeps those in power with the affluence and influence that they and there families had when these policies first took effect. The socialistic “exception” or “exemption” for the ruling class whether it is a different pay scale, health care system (as the case with Congress and the current bill being proposed) housing or personal expression is why in the long run socialism cannot sustain itself. The innate need of the human to be self reliant and strive for a better life is born in all of us and for those that believe the government is the road to that better life are misguided or think that they will be protected when the government changes.
With every right we give away to a government to get something, we give that right away forever. Personal responsibility is a two sides sword that we must handle carefully since it all comes back to use in the end but is the key to the “pursuit” of happiness we, as Americans, hold so dear. When we begin to let a ruling class take hold in American we run the risk of elitists telling those they govern what is in their best interest as oppose to what those that voted them in state we need from them. When the party you affiliate with in power usually all is good (in most American’s mind) but when the opposing view is in rule all hell breaks out…..the problem is not so much the party in power is that we all have let the government grow unchecked in power so that a day will come when a bill will be passed suspending voting all together and we all loose. This is the main issue with a strong Federal government and weak state governments and is the reason why we should reassert the 10th Amendment (The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people) into actual practice and begin to reduce the Federal governments power. A dominant Federal government whether a dictatorship or elected one can, by it sheer size, impose its will on its people (good or bad) and then we cease to become a free society and become a socialistic or fascist society (two sides of the same coin) where we must do as we are told either because we are invested in that government for survival (e.g. welfare, socialized medicine, jobs) or by intimidation tactics that punish those who speak out against its rule. All governments are in the business of keeping themselves in business and the only way to keep them in check is for the people to rule the government and for that central government to be small enough that they are dependent on us and we not that we are dependent on them. As Jefferson once stated and has been repeated numerous times, “A Government Big Enough to Give You Everything You Want, is Strong Enough to Take Everything You Have.” …..more later on topic.
