What, I'll get fat eating fast food? Duh, how stupid does this administration think we are? Food police! Food police! You know sometimes "experts" are just plain annoying..

Democrats want you to know that your McDonald's Angus Burger meal has about 1,500 calories ….Buried deep in the House health care bill is a provision, likely to raise nanny-state hackles, requiring fast-food chains and vending machine owners to notify customers of calorie counts -- by conspicuously posting nutritional information on menus or machines….The provision -- Section 2572 -- requires retail food establishments "part of a chain with 20 or more locations" to list calorie counts "on the menu board including a drive-through board," as is currently required in New York City and other localities…A "vending machine operator shall provide a sign in close proximity to each article of food or the selection button" that includes similar data….It merges the language of Sen. Tom Carper's LEAN Act the MEAL Act, sponsored by Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.) and Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa), earlier this year….The idea is popular among progressives and public health types who think it could reduce obesity, hypertension and diabetes rates -- particularly among inner-city folks whose diets are disproportionately composed of cheap, tasty, calorie-loaded Big Macs, Whoppers and Chalupas.

ABCNews: $160,000 Per Stimulus Job? White House Calls That 'Calculator Abuse'Posting its results late this afternoon at Recovery.gov, the White House claimed 640,329 jobs have been created or saved because of the $159 billion in stimulus funds allocated as of Sept. 30....Officials acknowledged the numbers were not exact, saying that states and localities that reported the numbers have made mistakes. ....In recent days, the Recovery Act board has been reviewing all the numbers, with many inaccurate ones having been posted. STIMULUS WATCH: US government's claims of 30,000 From the AP:

An early progress report on President Barack Obama's economic recovery plan overstates by thousands the number of jobs created or saved through the stimulus program, a mistake that White House officials promise will be corrected in future reports...The government's first accounting of jobs tied to the $787 billion stimulus program claimed more than 30,000 positions paid for with recovery money. But that figure is overstated by least 5,000 jobs, according to an Associated Press review of a sample of stimulus contracts...The AP review found some counts were more than 10 times as high as the actual number of jobs; some jobs credited to the stimulus program were counted two and sometimes more than four times; and other jobs were credited to stimulus spending when none was produced.
For example:- A company working with the Federal Communications Commission reported that stimulus money paid for 4,231 jobs, when about 1,000 were produced.

UN re-assesses their work after attack

NATO said two members of its military operation in Afghanistan were killed in bomb blasts in the south Wednesday, including one American....The guest house assault, which left five foreign U.N. staff and three Afghans dead, demonstrated the ease with which Taliban militants can penetrate the relative safety of Kabul. A Taliban spokesman said the attack was aimed at undermining the Nov. 7 presidential election runoff; the target was a small hotel home to the largest concentration of U.N. staffers working on the election.
U.N. spokesman Aleem Siddique said at least nine U.N. staff who survived the two-hour assault on the Bakhtar guest house will be evacuated to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates on Thursday...The U.N. has ordered its employees to remain "on lockdown," with their movements restricted, Siddique said Thursday, declining to give details for security reasons. The committee said Thursday night that the document was released by a low-level staffer.

With an estimated 10-year cost of $894 billion, that comes out to about $2.24 million per word….A “robust” public option can’t be found in the bill. CBO puts the healthcare bill at $1.055 trillion

The Congressional Budget Office said Thursday a U.S. House health-care system re-write would extend health insurance to 96% of the nonelderly U.S. population by 2019, and spend $1.055 trillion to do so….Penalties imposed on individuals who did not purchase insurance, and employers who did not offer coverage to their workers, would raise $161 billion over that time-frame. That brings the net cost of the bill to $894 billion through 2019, CBO said.

Fetal matter found in skincream, where is the outrage?

In a day and age when using animals and animal part to test and make beauty products is seen as a terrible thing (a rightly so)the use of fetuses to help us look younger isn't getting the same outrage. I guess activists were sleeping on the job when it came to products developed from the tissues of an aborted baby. From World Net News:

I'm a rebel, I'm a conservative?

The new rebellion movement in the U.S. seems to be the re-emergence, for lack of a better work, of the defiant conservative voice into our national debate. Since the inception of this country it has been drummed into American pop culture that the anti-establishment little man versus big man was something we should all aspire to as the the independent revolutionary we all think we are. With the election of Barrack Obama and the aging liberals controlling Congress this paradigm is beginning to change toward something unexpected, a conservative re-birth. With a recent Gallup poll showing self-identified conservatives hovering around 40%, it’s not so much that the belief that has changed (I always will assert that for more citizens in the U.S. are of a conservative mind than identify as such) but that the outward self-identifying has changed in reaction to the current state of Federal politics in our country. This change, as evident in the Tea party movement, is due to  the rebellion factor as much as it is to the often used reasons of frustration, conviction and anger. The vocal revolt of the current administration through increased viewership of conservative leaning T.V., readership of conservative leaning articles and the listenership in conservative leaning radio is as much a reclaiming of one’s convictions as it is a response to fight against the establishment in charge. This is the problem facing a group, that has always defined themselves as “anti” establishment but have now have become the establishment in charge….how does a perceived underdog get support when they are in charge. I believe this vocal “underdog” opposition to the Obama administration by the Tea party movement and conservatives in general is the main problem the this administration and Congress will face going forward since they have rarely, if ever, have had to deal with being the “establishment.”

This rebellious attitude is almost ingrained into the DNA of every Americans since we were founded on rebellion and look to those that go against the grain as heroes and icons. Tapping into the “maverick” lexicon (whether real or implied) has made more than one persons career (Rocky, Rambo, JLK, Reagan, John Wayne, Clint Eastwood to name a few.) We are seeing it now on the right as “conservatism” seems to be becoming a four letter word in the mainstream media and as the Obama administration takes on all that oppose them in ideology and policy. From Fox News to Rush Limbaugh to Glen Beck to the Tea parties; and locally with Doc Thompson, the Lee brothers and The Contemporary Conservative, all our audiences have grown exponentially due to the fact that we are now speaking out against the “establishment”…the funny thing is the “establishment” was once the “anti-establishment” and is failing in the leadership role they have so desperately rallied against for so many years. It is easy to criticize someone else when you have nothing to loose (Monday quarterback, backseat driver, movie critic.) We all do it to a degree but once the power shifts from the person being criticized to the critic, that critic better know what needs to be done, be effective in executive and not misjudge the support that they have less they be judge by their own past words.

But I digress, the point is that as long as there is a government that seems hell bent on dictating what the citizens should do, penalizing those that disagree and defining dissension as a matter of right and wrong then we, as American citizens, will revolt because that is who we are as Americans. Right now, there is a growing revolt against the uber liberal ideas of Congress and the Obama administration, last election it was a revolt against President Bush…the one thing that America can never loose is this rebellious spirit since that is what moves us forward as a country….more to come on this in the future.

Tax base leaving New York, will leaving the US be far behind?

New Yorkers are fleeing the state and city in alarming numbers -- and costing a fortune in lost tax dollars, a new study shows. ...More than 1.5 million state residents left for other parts of the United States from 2000 to 2008, according to the report from the Empire Center for New York State Policy. It was the biggest out-of-state migration in the country. ....The vast majority of the migrants, 1.1 million, were former residents of New York City -- meaning one out of seven city taxpayers moved out. ..."The Empire State is being drained of an invaluable resource -- people," the report said. ...What's worse is that the families fleeing New York are being replaced by lower-income newcomers, who consequently pay less in taxes. ...Overall, the ex-New Yorkers earn about 13 percent more than those who moved into the state, the study found. ...And it should be no surprise that the city -- and Manhattan in particular -- suffered the biggest loss in terms of taxable income. ...The average Manhattan taxpayer who left the state earned $93,264 a year. The average newcomer to Manhattan earned only $72,726. ...That's a difference of $20,538, the highest for any county in the state. Staten Island was second, with a $20,066 difference

Gayle R. Braswell, whom DeDanko defeated in 2005....The candidates, once
colleagues at the commissioner's office, exchanged personal attacks, and
DeDanko's former campaign manager, Pete Pettry, called for a State Board of
Elections investigation into a Braswell car-wash fundraiser. Braswell was
cleared.
Three weeks before election, Pettry switched his support to
Braswell, attacking DeDanko's character in messages sent to media outlets....The
Board of Elections is currently investigating other complaints in both
campaigns.

The Flu as a national emergency

Is the flu really cause for declaring a national emergency on a political ploy to get the healthcare bill passsed?  When the hysteria reaches pandemic status what government controls will be imposed on us then. From the AP: 

President Barack Obama declared the swine flu outbreak a national emergency, giving his health chief the power to let hospitals move emergency rooms offsite to speed treatment and protect noninfected patients....The declaration, signed Friday night and announced Saturday, comes with the disease more prevalent than ever in the country and production delays undercutting the government's initial, optimistic estimates that as many as 120 million doses of the vaccine could be available by mid-October....Health authorities say more than 1,000 people in the United States, including almost 100 children, have died from the strain of flu known as H1N1, and 46 states have widespread flu activity. So far only 11 million doses have gone out to health departments, doctor's offices and other providers, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention officials.

neutrality, as I see it, is the fairness doctrine for the Internet," she said.

how they deploy their content over the Internet and they want the ISPs to manage

Two years ago, Rep. Randy Forbes (R-Va.) was sitting at his desk bemoaning the slow pace of Congress. As he got more and more frustrated, he also grew sick of looking at his own picture.

Everywhere he turned in his space in the Rayburn House Office Building, he saw photos of himself posing with firefighters, with government officials and even with the president.

“We sit around looking at these pictures, and we start thinking this is kind of all about us,” Forbes says. “So I brought my staff in, and they thought I was having a senior moment. I told them I want to take all the pictures down.”

Today, instead of staring at his own mug, Forbes has hung a large copy of the Declaration of Independence on one wall surrounded by framed pictures of the 56 signers. The display takes up an entire wall.

“It’s not about me. It’s not about us being here,” he says. “It’s about the legacy that they have left, birthing a nation of freedom.”

Forbes, the ranking member on the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Readiness, created the wall in the hope that it would have an effect on the military officials who come to his office.

“I want to make sure every time one of our generals come in or one of our admirals come in and we have a meeting, or every time we have a staff meeting, or every time our constituents come up for a meeting, that we get to look these guys in the eyes and realize that we stand on their shoulders,” he says.

While Forbes admires the Founding Fathers, he looks beyond them to a higher power for advice when it comes to governing. Any visitor who spends even a few seconds in Forbes’ office soon learns that he is a devout Christian.

The founder of the Congressional Prayer Caucus displays a large framed prayer across from the Declaration of Independence wall. Former Senate Chaplain Peter Marshall delivered this prayer in 1948: “If any man lack wisdom let him ask of God, who giveth to all liberally and it shall be given to him.” Forbes looks to this prayer as a reminder of his belief that God is supreme over Congress.

“It’s basically for us never to become so conceited that we think we know more about government than God,” he says.

Near the prayer is a print of a painting called “Daniel in the Lion’s Den,” which depicts the biblical figure in a cave filled with lions. Daniel is looking up to the heavens. Forbes says this also serves as an inspiration to him.

“The main thing to always remember is where Daniel was looking for strength,” Forbes says. “He wasn’t looking at the lion — he was looking at God.”

The wall with the Declaration and the wall with the prayer face each other on purpose. Forbes says the Declaration is the nation’s past, while prayer and God are its future. He points out the beginning of the Declaration of Independence, which, of course, says the rights of man are “endowed by their Creator.”

“If the state gave us those rights, then they can take them away,” Forbes says.

Forbes believes this document brought about “two concepts heard around the world.” The first is that people are given rights that the government can’t take away, and the second is that these rights were a gift from God. As long as Americans recognize and respect these ideals, Forbes thinks the country will do just fine.

“The Declaration has always been the founding document of the country, more important even than the Constitution,” he says. “If that document is illegitimate or if it’s wrong, then nothing else that we do has legs under it.”

UPDATE 2: The Senate Finance Committee filed its sweeping health care reform bill Monday and its release served largely to highlight the divisions among Democrats over the direction of reform.

The massive, 1,500 page bill is expected to serve as the backbone for Democratic reform efforts going forward and five senators expressed concerns about one of its main provisions, a 40 percent tax on high-end insurance plans.
The tax is designed to pay for reform and lower costs by making the so-called Cadillac plans less attractive for insurers to offer. Under the bill, a plan that costs an individual more than $8,000 and a family more than $21,000 annually would be subject to the tax.

Dunn admits White controls Media then makes Hypocritical statements about Fox News

President Obama's presidential campaign focused on "making" the news media cover certain issues while rarely communicating anything to the press unless it was "controlled," White House Communications Director Anita Dunn disclosed to the Dominican government at a videotaped conference. …"Very rarely did we communicate through the press anything that we didn't absolutely control," said Dunn.
"One of the reasons we did so many of the David Plouffe videos was not just for our supporters, but also because it was a way for us to get our message out without having to actually talk to reporters," said Dunn, referring to Plouffe, who was Obama's chief campaign manager. ….."We just put that out there and made them write what Plouffe had said as opposed to Plouffe doing an interview with a reporter. So it was very much we controlled it as opposed to the press controlled it," Dunn said….. Continued Dunn: "Whether it was a David Plouffe video or an Obama speech, a huge part of our press strategy was focused on making the media cover what Obama was actually saying as opposed to why the campaign was saying it, what the tactic was. … Making the press cover what we were saying." ….Dunn has been facing some criticism since she led a White House campaign last week against Fox News, slamming the top-rated network as an "arm of the Republican Party" and "opinion journalism masquerading as news." Senator Cuccinelli Praises Federal Judge for Protecting the Voting Rights of Thousands of Virginia Military Voters Federal Court Confirms Cuccinelli's Argument that Virginia was Violating the Voting Rights of Military and Overseas Citizens.

Fairfax, VA - Senator Ken Cuccinelli, candidate for Attorney General, commended the decision by a federal judge that the Commonwealth of Virginia had violated the voting rights of thousands of Virginia military personnel and other overseas citizens under federal law. On Thursday, October 15, 2009, U.S. District Judge Richard L. Williams, sitting in Richmond, ruled in McCain-Palin vs. Virginia State Board of Elections that Virginia failed to mail more than 2,000 absentee ballots to military personnel and other overseas citizens in time for their votes to be counted in last November's presidential election, thus violating their rights under federal law. The law in question is the Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act (UOCAVA), which guarantees citizens living abroad the right to vote absentee. To remedy this violation of federal law, the Court ordered the Commonwealth to count all otherwise proper ballots received by the Commonwealth within 30 days after the election. "I am very pleased that Judge Williams has come to this decision," Senator Cuccinelli stated. "It was a travesty that our military members were disenfranchised last November, and it is vitally important that we make sure this never happens again." He continued, "Our military defends our nation and its' citizenry, and it is the very least we can do to make sure that the voices of these brave men and women should be heard in our elections. As the next Attorney General, I will lead the push to put the legal structures in place to ensure Virginia's military men and women that their votes will count in every election." This is not the first time that Senator Cuccinelli has been involved with protecting the voting rights of these military personnel. On October 6, 2009, Cuccinelli criticized the Kaine Administration for filing a legal brief (see http://www.cuccinelli.com/memo.pdf) that amazingly argued that because there is no statutory timeframe in place under federal law, the Commonwealth could mail absentee ballots to active duty service members right up to the day before an election. Of course, with the turnaround time in the mail for such ballots, those ballots would never be returned in time to be counted, thereby denying those military personnel the right to vote. Judge Williams' decision on the 15th largely confirmed Senator Cuccinelli's position.

Virginia's Democrat Gubernatorial candidate Creigh Deeds' biggest backer is Virginia Governor/Democratic National Committee Chairman Timothy Kaine. A Federal Judge has ruled that Gov. Tim Kaine's Administration has violated the rights of Military Service Members that reside in Virginia. Deeds has yet to condemn the Kaine Administration's subversive tacticts on military voter suppression, in fact, Deeds continues to embrace Tim Kain with open arms. NO CRITICISIM FROM DEEDS? RICHMOND A federal judge ruled Friday that Virginia violated the voting rights of military service members and other Americans living overseas when electoral officials failed to send them ballots for last year's presidential election on time.

U.S. District Judge Richard Williams also ordered the Virginia Board of Elections to count and certify valid absentee ballots for the election after it reaches an agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice on how the process will be conducted. The count won't change the outcome of the election, which President Obama won in Virginia by nearly 233,000 votes.
The ballots from military service members and others living outside Virginia were the focus of a lawsuit filed by Republican candidate John McCain's campaign, which alleged that they weren't mailed in time for voters to cast their ballots before the polls closed on Nov. 4, 2008. The Justice Department replaced the campaign as the plaintiff after Judge Williams ruled that the Republican ticket lacked standing to sue.

Judge Williams said in an opinion Thursday that Virginia's failure to mail more than 2,100 absentee ballots at least 30 days before the election violated the Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act. At least 96 of the ballots were received by local registrars after the polls closed and were not counted.

When children leave Cox Farms and other pumpkin patches across the nation this fall, they may go home with a gourd instead of the traditional orange pumpkin....That's because Cox Farms, which hosts one of the Washington area's largest fall festivals this month, is looking at a pumpkin shortage.....Cox Farms marketing manager Bob Richard said a rainy spring in some parts of the country has led to a dearth of the little pumpkins that children carry home from the patch.

MANASSAS, VA -- In a lively debate focusing on criminal justice, economic and illegal immigration issues, it was the answer NOT given that defined the outcome of this debate. In the candidate-to-candidate question portion of the debate between Attorney General Candidates Steve Shannon and Senator Ken Cuccinelli, Cuccinelli asked Steve Shannon a simple two-part question addressing the basics of the Attorney General's office: "How many divisions are there in the Attorney General's office? Please name each one, and explain briefly what each one does." Having a full three minutes to respond, Shannon's non-answer demonstrated clearly that he does not know the structure or operation of the Attorney General's office.

After Shannon went on not answering for some time, Senator Cuccinelli got back up, interrupting, and said to the moderator "if this were a courtroom, I'd be objecting to the witness not answering the question." The moderator shrugged, and let Shannon ramble without ever answering the question (though he did complain about the question during his non-answer).

In post-debate comments, Senator Cuccinelli said "this race is a job interview with Virginia's voters. I know the job I'm applying for and I'm prepared to manage every aspect of it. Steve Shannon failed his job interview with flying colors."

In a debate where Cuccinelli hammered away at Shannon's open hostility to Virginia's right to work law, his massive big labor donations - emphasized by the orange t-shirt clad union members shouting for Shannon in the room, and his refusal to stand up to the Obama administration to protect Virginia against collective bargaining - such as that found in the notorious "card check" legislation now pending in the U.S. Senate. Senator Cuccinelli made it clear that if he gets elected, he will use the 10th Amendment to protect Virginia from federal attacks on Virginia's right to work laws.

For the first time in three debates, the subject of illegal immigration was raised and a lively discussion ensued when Ken Cuccinelli exposed Steve Shannon's consistent support of allowing illegal aliens in Virginia's public Universities.

While emphasizing that public safety is Governments first responsibility, Senator Cuccinelli further noted "As Attorney General, I will bring a wide breadth of experience to the office, including years in public safety and constitutional law. The Attorney General's office is a multi-dimensional law firm representing the Commonwealth of Virginia. The fact that Steve Shannon not only doesn't know the job, or its responsibilities, clearly demonstrates his lack of preparation for the office he seeks," concluded Cuccinelli.

Creigh Deeds has never been diagnosed with a speech impediment, if so, he would have released the medical findings. To date, Deeds has not released his medical records at all. Plain and simple, Deeds has no public speaking ability. Speaking to you one on one, Deeds may be great, but in large crowds, Deeds simply cannot connect with the clarity necessary for a Gubernatorial Candidate. Just as recently as last year, Virginia and national Dems made fun of the speaking style and cadence of former President George W. Bush.

Now folks feign offense towards others that point out Deeds' chronic inability to communicate. Cry me a river Dems.

The New Ruling Class

I find it increasingly alarming that politicians of all creeds and parties (except a few state and local officials) are increasingly belligerent and resentful toward the constituents that they serve. As government continues to grow exponentially, a ruling class is beginning to take seed, despite the best effort of our Constitution to prevent such a thing. The preamble states “We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence,[1] promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America” and introduces our constitution and establish government as a government of the people and for the people putting on solid footing that we (the people) are not to be ruled but are the ones that rule. Good or bad, the representative democracy that has been established in this country has allowed us to correct our faults, inspire those born less fortunate to succeed and blur the line of the caste system so prevalent in other countries ruled by dictators and aristocracy.


The ruling class, as well as, the evaporation of the middle class (the strength of America) is one of the major reasons that Socialism does not work when taken into the real world. In true socialism (or communism) all citizens are to be treated equal which in turn stifles the middle class to strive for a better life and keeps those in power with the affluence and influence that they and there families had when these policies first took effect. The socialistic “exception” or “exemption” for the ruling class whether it is a different pay scale, health care system (as the case with Congress and the current bill being proposed) housing or personal expression is why in the long run socialism cannot sustain itself. The innate need of the human to be self reliant and strive for a better life is born in all of us and for those that believe the government is the road to that better life are misguided or think that they will be protected when the government changes.

With every right we give away to a government to get something, we give that right away forever. Personal responsibility is a two sides sword that we must handle carefully since it all comes back to use in the end but is the key to the “pursuit” of happiness we, as Americans, hold so dear. When we begin to let a ruling class take hold in American we run the risk of elitists telling those they govern what is in their best interest as oppose to what those that voted them in state we need from them. When the party you affiliate with in power usually all is good (in most American’s mind) but when the opposing view is in rule all hell breaks out…..the problem is not so much the party in power is that we all have let the government grow unchecked in power so that a day will come when a bill will be passed suspending voting all together and we all loose. This is the main issue with a strong Federal government and weak state governments and is the reason why we should reassert the 10th Amendment (The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people) into actual practice and begin to reduce the Federal governments power. A dominant Federal government whether a dictatorship or elected one can, by it sheer size, impose its will on its people (good or bad) and then we cease to become a free society and become a socialistic or fascist society (two sides of the same coin) where we must do as we are told either because we are invested in that government for survival (e.g. welfare, socialized medicine, jobs) or by intimidation tactics that punish those who speak out against its rule. All governments are in the business of keeping themselves in business and the only way to keep them in check is for the people to rule the government and for that central government to be small enough that they are dependent on us and we not that we are dependent on them. As Jefferson once stated and has been repeated numerous times, “A Government Big Enough to Give You Everything You Want is Strong Enough to Take Everything You Have.”. We need to vote with our conscious and our ideals intact not because we are suppose to vote for a party, how our spouse or parents vote but for candidates that reflect our sensibilities..



Freedom and free will are very tricky things since not everything we want to do is necessarily something we should do given our own self interest. Helping somebody help themselves (especially with self destructive behavior) is a slippery slope to navigate and when it comes to governments and institutions mandating behavior changes it gets even more hazardous. Within reason (murder, abuse, thievery) it is always hard to decide what is necessary and what is an unnecessary infringement on personal rights in a free society. For every book burned due to someone’s personal tastes is a brilliant piece of literature that could inspire a person to greatness. Should we speak out on those issues we dream offensive, wrong and bad for our country, no doubt and with a loud voice should we expect the government of a free Republic to only enforce rules and laws that we agree will…..maybe not so much. Like a candle that burns at both ends, every restriction we put on a group or believe by letting the government impose laws and take away freedoms is one we have to give away when people of like minds cease to control that process. Personal choice and responsibility is the way to a free society, not giving a group of bureaucrats’ power over what we can and cannot do on our own lives.  We need to stop the rise of this "ruling" class and take back the power of government and put it in the hands of all of us, only then can we be a free society.

One of these things is definitely not like the other...this is getting ridiculous. Florida Rep. Alan Grayson is under fire from conservatives (should be everyone) for describing the gist of their health care plans as "die quickly," is not exactly backing down from claims he's crossed a line of civility.....because Rep. Grayson has no civility, common sense or grasp of history of the atrocious injustices that was the holocaust . Don't need facts when you always play to emotions... to vilify differing solutions is to not seek the best solution but only your solution…words have meanings and this guy is an ass (yes, I said it, an ASS...not an evil ass just a stupid one - don't want to be a hypocrite)
