Obama's Frightening Insensitivity Following Shooting

From NBC Chicago:

President Obama didn't wait long after Tuesday's devastating elections to give critics another reason to question his leadership, but this time the subject matter was more grim than a pair of governorships...After news broke out of the shooting at the Fort Hood Army post in Texas, the nation watched in horror as the toll of dead and injured climbed. The White House was notified immediately and by late afternoon, word went out that the president would speak about the incident prior to a previously scheduled appearance. At about 5 p.m., cable stations went to the president. The situation called for not only his trademark eloquence, but also grace and perspective..viewers saw a wildly disconnected and inappropriately light president making introductory remarks. At the event, a Tribal Nations Conference hosted by the Department of Interior's Bureau of Indian affairs, the president thanked various staffers and offered a "shout-out" to "Dr. Joe Medicine Crow -- that Congressional Medal of Honor winner."

Perhaps you are missing Obama's rationale.

If we are to accept the premise that these occasional murders are part of a plot hatched by a sub-group of "radical" Muslims, then their main purpose is to disrupt and terrorize.

By coolly dealing with the murders as part of a routine speech, instead of dropping everything for a group hug and mass blubbering, President Obama, is perhaps showing that America will respond forcefully, yet we will not let such terrorist acts disrupt our march into the Twenty-first Century.

If we believe that the terrorists are the fundamentalist Muslims, their greatest fear is to be rendered irrelevant by modernity.

Americans should also recall how we all leapt to wrong conclusions after the Oklahoma City bombings. While there is not much doubt that Hasan was the murderer, it is not clear what his motivation was, or if he acted alone.

Given the frequency with which our government lied to us during the post 9/11 hysteria, Americans should be wary of the various reports parroted by the media who cite, "unnamed government sources."

That's one way of looking at it JTB... another one would be that the POTUS really could care less since he hates the military and is insensitive to those that lose their lives in this senseless act of cowardess....

Thank you, Jody, for the fruitcake perspective.

Obama cannot even breath without offending a "conservative". I use quotes because there are many real conservatives who can oppose Obama without hating the man. Your ilk, sorry, more closely resembles the knee jerk Bush hating by those who call themselves "progressives".

Fruitcake perspective?!? Nice.....Paul it propably is a little of tit fortat in responding to Obama's action but then I wouldn't have been so critical of Bush as well....I think it is a reach to believe this was some sort of "planned" response to convey a particular message and not a rushed response to a given situation....a pattern that seems to get our President into more trouble than not
