...whew! I was worried that the a-listers wouldn't get their "goody" bags worth tens of thousands this year when most are hurting with layoffs and piles of bills unpaid this Christmas season.....these people are sooooo clueless. From Vanity Fair.com:
Vanity Fair will hold its annual Oscar Night party at the Sunset Tower Hotel on February 22, 2009, it was announced today by editor Graydon Carter...“The party will be a much more intimate affair than in years past; we’re going to scale back the guest list considerably,” Carter says. “We’ll celebrate Hollywood’s big night the way we did when we first threw the party 15 years ago—it will be a cozier, more understated event. And one with familiar decor—given the current economy, and our dedication to the green movement, we will be recycling many of the elements of years past. We also look forward to working with Jeff Klein, who owns the Sunset Tower (and is my partner in another venture), in making next year’s Oscar party a memorable one.”
Also, should a magazine that has seen shrinking sales and subscriptions really be spending money on a party?

AB-SO-LUTELY! Spend spend spend!! A few more bucks for the waitstaff/(out-of-work actors) to pay bills, buy drinks, and Christmas shop! Also the party (and their recycling efforts) could prove good p.r. and help with sales. I think big companies need to keep throwing their parties and help support the lower-end workers of this struggling economy. ..spread the wealth...trickle down...trickle down.
I just posted my opinion of what's REALLY wrong with the U.S. economy and what we as citizens NEED TO DO in order to ensure long-term prosperity.
Let me know what you think.

Thanks!

Chicago Dave - Very intersting take, I never thought of it that way. It still somehow seems wrong that the poor wait staff only get the "crumbs" while the so called Hollywood Elite continue to fatten themselves on partying and goodie bags worth more than most wait staff make in a year - not to mention feeding their oversized egos.
