Move over Louis Farrakhan, you're no longer the biggest Muslim name supporting Barack Hussein Obama.
Who then? Muhammad Ali is all set to make an appearance to endorse Barack Hussein Obama at the Democratic National Convention in Colorado.
Try this on for a primer about Muhammad Ali:
from http://www.answers.com/topic/muhammad-ali-boxer
"In 1964, Cassius Clay joined the Nation of Islam and changed his name to Muhammad Ali. Citing his Islamic faith, Ali refused to serve in the U.S. military during the war in Vietnam; he refused to cooperate with the draft. Ali was sentenced to five years in prison for draft evasion. In May of 1967, he was stripped of his title and boxing license by the World Boxing Association. At the time, Ali told the press, "I ain't got no quarrel with them Viet-Cong."
Further, doing much to keep the Nation of Islam popular in the black community after the assassination of Malcolm X in 1965. He figured in the writings of such important 1960s black literary figures as Amiri Baraka Eldridge Cleaver, Malcolm X, and Larry Neal."
Yes, here the boxing thing about Ali: "[he] was the dominant heavyweight fighter of the 1960s and 1970s. A fighter of exceptional speed, cunning and flair, Ali won the world heavyweight title on three separate occasions over a span of 15 years."
Muhammad Ali said that Malcolm X "...was a good speaker. He was fearless. He helped me to come to Islam." Muhammad Ali sought guidance and counsel from Malcolm X, whom he met several times. Just before Muhammad Ali's fight with Liston, Malcolm advised Ali to remember David and Goliath. Muhammad Ali accepted and practices the same form of Islam that Malcolm X did.
What irony. Ali, a known Viet Cong sympathiser, will speak at the Democratic National Convention next week--in support of John McCain's opponent, Barack Hussein Obama. McCain was tortured by the Viet Cong for years. Why does Obama insist on playing this game with McCain?
