GOP in VA Senate still has some power

The Senate Republicans in the General Assembly are using what power they still possess to stop the withdrawal of more than $420 million from the rainy day fund. Interesting quotes:

Sen. William C. Wampler Jr. of Bristol, the finance panel's ranking Republican, said the GOP would resist the budget because it relies on a Kaine-recommended $420 million withdrawal from the rainy-day account while expanding programs the governor favors....the seven Republicans on the 16-member Senate Finance Committee opposed the panel's recommended changes to a budget for 2008-2010.
