Being an Iowa native living abroad in Virginia, I have always taken the Iowa Caucus as the kickoff of the real Election season (not the straw poll also in Iowa.) Even though the politicking’ started very early for the 08’ Presidential elections things are really going to heat up after the first of the year. I have a feeling this is going to be the craziest, dirtiest and an all out war to win the Presidency and the direction of this country. Both of the major parties have a host of potential candidates right now and also a ton of options for a final ticket (Giuliani/Romney, Clinton/Obama, Thompson/ Huckabee, Obama/Edwards) that will bring Americans out in droves next November to vote. Also, many Americans will go to the polls not to vote for their candidate but to vote against the other candidate. With 50% of people stating that they will not, under any circumstance, vote for Hillary you have to think that her detractors as well as her admirers will come to cast their vote if she is the nominee. This begs the question, how do we as voters effect change through the voting process when we are constantly NOT voting for a candidate we believe in but against a candidate that we can not stand. Why do politicians tell us everything bad about the other guy and little about the ideas they institute if elected? Why do people who don’t vote, complain or use the phase “I executing my right to vote by NOT voting like that really makes sense? What’s up with these wishy washy undecided people, get off the fence already?
